Anatomy of a RealCup

RealCup's are one of the new single cup coffee technologies that will work in Keurig K-cup brewers.   RealCup's are used by Martinson Coffee, Higgins and Burke Tea, Marley Coffee, Second Cup Coffee, Brown Gold and Peet's Coffee.

The RealCup is very similar to a Green Mountain product, using a sealed cup that contains nitrogen flushed ground coffee.    The filter inside the cup is different, it is a silky, flexible material that holds the coffee well.   It does not let any grounds through, but it does seem to let a good number of coffee solids through.   The end brew with the RealCup is really good coffee.

Here is what you find inside the RealCup capsule.   Just like a K-cup, you have ground coffee that is nitrogen flushed for freshness.   The coffee filter is attached to the rim of the capsule and is suspended from the lid.

As you can see the filter is not a paper filter, but a fine mesh.

The RealCup seems to do an excellent job in the brewers that we have tested.   The coffee comes out perfect with more coffee solids than I have found from original K-cups.
